Ten Arizona Mayors pledged to partake in a statewide celebration of Earth Day this April. Their video message, as well as an extensive list of Earth Day events and activities, can be found at EarthDayAZ.org. In partnership and as participants of ASU’s Sustainable Cities Network (SCN), the Mayors and their respective cities are working to advance local and regional sustainability and resilience measures all year long.
Exciting and creative events are taking place across the state, both virtually and safely in person. In northern Arizona, Flagstaff is hosting virtual engagements through social media videos that highlights an outline for climate change and call to action.
In Phoenix, you can pick up a “clean-up kit” that you can use to clean your neighborhood, or join Rio Reimagined and help clean up the Salt River for an in-person clean-up on April 24th.
And in Tucson, there are several family activities happing on Saturday, April 24, that offer drive-thru options as well as in-person events.
With such a diverse range of activities, Arizonans are sure to find a way to partake that they are excited about! It is the collective hope that these events will inspire Arizonans to continue celebrating and caring for the Earth, not just during the month of April, but throughout the year.

The ASU Sustainable Cities Network (SCN) is an innovative education and outreach program within the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Future Laboratory, created to work with communities to strengthen sustainability in the region and across Arizona. Comprised of Arizona city, town, county and tribal community practitioners and leaders, SCN is a vehicle for sharing knowledge, identifying best practices, coordinating planning and actions, and fostering long-term partnerships. Created as a bridge between ASU research and local sustainability challenges, SCN participants and partners work together to streamline and green city operation and advance local and regional sustainability and resilience measures.
